Stork’s Nest

Stork’s Nest is a collaborative and cooperative project of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and the March of Dimes Foundation. Stork’s Nest had its origin right here in the Atlanta area in 1971 through an endeavor conceived by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority member Evelyn Brown of Epsilon Zeta Chapter. The program was renamed and formally adopted as a national project of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated in 1972. With almost 50 years of partnership with the March of Dimes, the Stork’s Nest Program and its curriculum have been further expanded under the international Z-HOPE (Zeta’s Helping Others Excel) community initiatives.Currently, there are over 175 Stork’s Nest nationwide that have proudly served over 28,000 women.

The purpose of the Stork’s Nest is to encourage economically disadvantaged women to seek prenatal care within the first trimester of their pregnancy. Research has shown that mothers who seek this care decrease the potential for birth defects and infant mortality. Stork’s Nest promotes prenatal care participation and positive health choices during pregnancy through two components—incentives and education.
